According to Sanatan Dharm, the Supreme is present in each and every molecule of the Universe. As evolved souls state, it is in everyone’s heart. That is why we feel Divine is always there with us, to love us, guide us and offer solace in times of strife.

But since the Supreme is nirgun, without any form, it is difficult to concentrate on and feel assured about. So, there is a tradition of making beautiful symbolic idols - murtis and paintings. These are placed on pedestals in temples and homes and treated as auspicious beings, like most coveted guests. As the saying goes -- ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’, the guest is the deity.
