Eyes on blinking screens, ears with ear-pods feeding the mind with constant stimulation of images and sounds, attributing to the restlessness and increasing sensory phenomenon of the mind and body. Strange new syndromes and diseases are engulfing the new age humans and mental illnesses are breaking records! The recent lockdowns and lifestyle changes have forced all to reconsider their present state of being. It’s almost like nature is providing a second chance, but why would anyone of us take this opportunity to reassess our status quo habits? All await the miracles of vaccine so old ways can be glorified again! Humans are beasts of habit, familiar habits and ways, so why change?
Exploding Head Syndrome, ever heard of this? Sounds scary, and it should, as we humans are heading towards similar states where even in sleep which is physiologically the most restful time the mind cannot and will not stop racing. Pills and therapy have become an age old norm and there is no escaping from this! Human is creating his own web with the GMOs, 5Gs, plastic waste, deforestation, over-fishing and pollution thus interfering with the delicate eco-systems, going against nature and her ways. Just like all other spices, humans have to pause and acknowledge the truth of their existence. A human being with higher intelligence, top of the food chain is still a part of this eco-system that the Earth nurtures. Humans have to connect with nature that has and always will provide all sustenance to nurture life and its evolution.
NASA proposed April 22nd as Earth Day. It took man to escape the gravity to view from outer space the beauty of Earth–The Blue Dot, which is set in the “Goldilocks zone” where there is balance of everything for numerous spices to survive and thrive. Until the human mind and ego took over! Although human has made great scientific strides in this era there also has been tremendous destruction of nature. Ironically, human in his seventy years of life span thinks he can compete with nature and win the race forgetting that nature has been in control for billions of years.
When was the last time you smelled a rose, or delighted your eyes with the greenery of fresh grass or the butterflies, the birds or gazed at the vast waves of the endless ocean or the majestic beauty of the mountains. When was the last time you allowed your feet to feel the dirt, touch the trees, collect pebbles, the seashells, count the stars in the night sky? Remember, the time you went close to nature you felt a strange delight, a lightness, a release of stress.
It’s never too late, there is hope, hope in the lap of nature. Mother Earth has provided all spices with the antidote for all our follies. We need to open our eyes and tune them to see nature, feel nature and be like nature. Mother Earth and its nature is forever giving and forgiving but also annihilating all imperfections. Be like her, be like the mother–the mother of all–Mother Earth.
Dedicating, this to my mother Usha Kalia, who was a nature lover and to Meena OM ji a constant guiding force.
