Question: Pranam Meenaji, sharing these lines from Nityageeta: “Nor this not that, the soul is not knowable. It cannot be acquired. It is eternal and indestructible. It cannot be touched because it is not affected, it is liberated because it does not get perturbed, exploited and diminished.”
Please explain the meaning of not knowable and cannot be acquired. Does it mean that billions of souls have always been there since eternity or beyond and they acquire different bodies from micro-organisms to humans etc. A soul cannot be created?
Meena ji: Soul is called a soul only when it is perched in a jeev, be it an ant or an elephant, human or hare. Outside the jeev it is only energy. It cannot be felt, touched, pinched, held, acquired or known — recognised.
For example, water has electricity but you cannot touch pin point define or feel that energy in it; it is omnipresent. Same is the case of energy within all the other elements – air, earth, space, fire. You cannot hold the energy in them in your hands.
Energy when perched in a jeev is called soul. That soul gets covered by your ignorance – you never realise that it is actually part of the same energy around you, that it is omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient. We get limited by the body, cannot look beyond the body.
When the body in which soul is perched becomes defunct or dies, then the energy is released and merges with the universe.
Soul is a minutest ansh, particle of the vast pool of energy. You cannot even see it.
Take for instance a light bulb. Can you see the energy flowing towards it through the wire, can you touch the wire and say where is the current or can you see it travelling through the wire, you only see it when the bulb is lit.
Similarly, when a child is born he is alive because of the presence of energy within him, you cannot see it, you can only see the baby alive. Similarly when the bulb is lit, you can see it, and when the bulb becomes fused, you cannot see the light receding from it. Where does it go? You can see it again when you put a new bulb. It lights up too. Can you see the light traveling again to it? Only if the bulb is coloured or frosted, the light reflected through it will be coloured or frosted according to its formation, just like when the light in a human gets covered by the tainted mind.
So energy is one and the same. The question of billions of souls does not arise. Just as you cannot count the millions of molecules of the five elements or stars in the sky souls too cannot be counted.
You must behave according to the attributes of the soul — energy.
This is truth.
The energy running the universe is running the jeevs. So the only truth is that the energy which is running the whole show is the core of the whole creation. That is why Pranam says, ‘Satya hee Ishwar hai.’
